Outdoor Activities

Hiking and Nature Trails - The region around East Haddam Connecticut offers many options for hiking, mountain bike, or just nature trail enthusiasts. State Parks such as area favorites Devil's Hopyard, Gilliette Castle, Hurd State Park, and Salmon River Forest have walking and hiking trails, with a few providing mountain bike access. Others areas such as Bluff Point and Haley Farm in Groton have both hiking and mountain bike trails that take you through woodlands and nature-filled conservation areas.

Sailing and Boating - Sailing and boating are two popular summer past-times of many in the area. Several lakes provide for canoeing, kayaking, and power boating, while the lower Connecticut River and nearby Long Island Sound offer some of the best sailing and large powerboating waters available. Along the shore you'll find many charters and rentals, as well and several ferry services that will take you over to Block Island.

Fresh and Saltwater Fishing - South Eastern Connecticut provides some of the best fresh and saltwater fishing in the state. Cold-water streams and rivers hold both native and stocked trout, and several great bass waters, such as nearby Moodus Reservior and Bashan Lake, as well as Billings, Rogers, Pattagansett and Wyassup Lakes are some of the best large- and small waters around. For saltwater, Harkness, Rocky Neck and Fort Trumbull give you shore access to striped bass, bluefish, and fluke fishing or hire any number of fishing charter boats that will take you into deeper waters and a larger array of gamefish.
